HCDJK men go english (but not for points)
HC DJK Konstanz - HSG Schwenningen 2 27:33 (13:20)
Our guests for the second home game of the season drove for over an hour from Schwenningen, hoping for their third win after five games so far. Their last visit to Konstanz two weeks ago (against HSG4) had them drive back with their tails between their legs (38:29).
After a two-week break following our third away game (1/3) this season, the HC DJK men were wholly unprepared for what a difference two weeks can make.
GSS, Saturday evening - 12 Karpfen howed up to see 16 Schwenninger take it home from start to finish. It was clear they had something to make up for. We did roll out the red carpet for them. More about the actual game below, but first things first: our guests brought their own music setup to warm up to - which they needed, since we didn’t have any music running.
That about frames the evening for those who weren’t there. I know how much a lot of us do during (and beyond) game days, but we really can't skip on pre-game preparation.
Within the first four minutes, the Karpfen were staring at a quick and unexpected 0-4 Rückstand. At no point during the game were we able to recover from that initial setback. Not for lack of trying, but after 30 minutes the Schwenninger side went into halftime with a comfortable seven-goal lead (13:20) at the GSS.
The Karpfen fought hard and managed to find their rhythm at times during the second half, but it remained a game of catch-up. With less than 15 minutes left to play, the Karpfen were down by nine goals (19:28) - but still found a way to fight back, narrowing the score to 26:30 with just six minutes left on the clock. It wasn’t enough to close the gap, and after 60 minutes the final score read a clear 27:33.
Our guests claimed their third win, overtaking HC DJK for fifth place in the Bezirksliga - though with one more game played.
If we want to take anything away from this game, it’s that there are still 15 games left in the season.
Other than our trip to Spaichingen this Saturday (15/11), our next five games will all be at the GSS:
Su 23/11 – HSG Mimmenhausen 2
Sa 29/11 – HSG Konstanz 4
Sa 13/12 – HSG Baar 3
Su 18/01 – HSC Radolfzell 2
Sa 24/01 – TSC Blumberg
Home games all the way through to the end of January.
And we can win each one - but only if we show up together.
